Ancona is the chief town of the Region Marche and is situated just at north of the Conero Mountain.
Extended towards the sea, the city has got a very ancient natural harbour, set on a natural creek (with the form of an elbow, from the greek word “ankon” from which would derive the name Ancona).
It is a city of art, with its historical centre full of important monuments, as the San Ciriaco Cathedral, the Santa Maria of Portonuovo Church built in a suggestive position under the Conero Montain and almost on the beach, the Vanvitelli massive structure directly on the harbour, the Passetto (war memorial), meeting place with amazing sea view.
Among the most important and suggestive events are the Sea Feast (on the first Sunday of September) and the San Ciriaco Fair (from the 1st to 4th of May).
